Job Description:

The Deputy Associate Chief of Staff, (ACOS) for Primary Care is responsible for assisting the ACOS for Primary Care in managing the activities of the Primary Care Service, including all Primary Care services, Occupational and Employee Health Service, and the Women's Health Program at all SLVHCS locations. The incumbent assists the ACOS in ensuring that excellent care is provided, that quality improvement and performance metrics are met, and that professional and administrative tasks are completed. The position serves as a consultant and advisor to subordinates, peers, and administration including day-to-day reporting to the ACOS. The incumbent supervises and evaluates performance of SLVHCS' Primary Care Providers (PCPs). The Deputy ACOS, Primary Care, participates in policy design that impacts on the Service through collaboration with Medical Center administration and other Service Chiefs. Incumbent spends 10% of time with clinical responsibilities. The incumbent will maintain full clinical privileges as a member of the Medical Staff and abide by Medical Staff By-laws.

  • Provides leadership guidance and consultation to APC staff.
  • In support of ACOS, has oversight of all PCPs and CBOC managers
  • Ensures continuous improvement relative to the quality, value, and access of health care services
  • With ACOS, recruits new PCPs and other staff as needed.
  • Supervises the PACT Internal Medicine Residency Director, Women's Health Program Medical Director and the Occupational and Employee Health Director.
  • Supervises the PCPs located in New Orleans and the Slidell CBOC
  • Represents APC at the daily SLVHCS' Morning Meeting and Leadership Council.
  • Serves on SLVHCS and/or VISN committees or task forces.
  • Represents APC on the Peer Review Committee.
  • Develops responses to patient concerns/issues as directed.
  • Has responsibility to keep the ACOS, Primary Care apprised of activities and any issues in need of close collaboration. Recruitment and Relocation incentives may be authorized. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Basic Requirements:
    • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
    • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
    • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
    • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
    • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
    • Physical requirements outlined below. Preferred Experience: Board Certified Internal Medicine Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard.
